The Elvenbane Series

by Andre Norton & Mercedes Lackey

(aka) Halfblood Chronicles

The Elvenbane ~ 1991;

Elvenbane: The Prophecy is about to be fulfilled
There will come a child. One born of human mother but fathered by the demons, possessed of magic more powerful that the elven lords! The Child shall be hunted before its birth, yet shall escape the hunt and will rise up against the masters and cast them into the lowest hell…
The world is run by elvenlords. Powerful, proud and secure in their dominion keep legions of human slaves for work and take their pleasure in elven or human concubines. The breeding of halfbreeds is strickly forbidden. Then Serina Daeth – the favoured human concubine of the elven overlord Dryan – finds herself pregnant.
Forced to flee into the desert, Serina dreams – as she dies – of a midwife delivering her baby, Shana; the midwife is in fact the shapechanging dragon – shaman Alara.
But Shana is no ordinary child: raised by the dragons, she is destined to become the Elvenbane.

Elvenblood ~ 1995;

The powerful magic of ruthless Elvenlord masters has for centuries ruled the world. Even Shana, the legendary Elvenbane prophesied to deliver the oppressed into freedom, is helpless before such power. She and her ragtag band of outcasts, half-blood wizards, escaped human slaves, and free-thinking dragons have gained only a token victory against the mighty lords.

Only the long-forgotten Iron People, a band of human nomads, have escaped the tyranny of the reigning wizards. How have they survived through the centuries?

As the winds of change sweep the world, and as tensions seething beneath the surface of Elven society threaten to break into open revolt, Shana meets the ancient tribe. Could an age-old secret free Shana and her people…or will its discovery call down their doom?

Elvenborn ~ 2002;

For generations, Elvenlords have ruled the world, holding sway over humans and half-bloods alike. But the peace was shattered when the Elvenbane emerged to lead a rebellion against them. And now the Elvenlords’ own children, grown old enough to want their own power, have begun their own revolt, and are seizing the houses of noble Elvenlords.

The Elvenlords need a new military leader, and they find one in Krytian, a quiet, un-ambitious Elvenlord who has studied the art of war since his father disappeared years ago while searching for the Great Portal through which the Elvenborn came to this world.

Kyrtian proves to be the Elvenlords’ best military mind. But as he fights the young lords, his scheming cousins Aelmarkin and Triana are hatching a plot to take over his estates. And his greatest supporter, Lord Kyndreth, is as wily a politician as any among the elite. Kyrtian can defeat any foe on the field of battle…but can he survive his “allies”?

Elvenbred ~ ????;

Since Andre's passing in 2005 people have been wondering what happened to the 4th book in this wonderful series. Over the years I have heard many different scenarios as to what that may be. Unfortunately they have all been wrong. The only true fact was that Mercedes Lackey was, for reasons we will not go into here, sitting on the unfinished manuscript. Recently Mercedes Lackey was kind enough to answer my inquiry. (I guess it finally went to the correct place.)

As of March 17, 2017 ~~

Jay,

     Elvenbred is still under contract to Tor Books, and all the rights to it, and the other Elven books, were released to me as per Andre's wishes.  I intend to start it this summer, now that I am done with the Disney/Hyperion trilogy, and hopefully will have it finished by year's end.  At that point the manuscript will go to Tor as per the contract, and it will be published by Tor as per the contract.  Tor does not have e-book rights, but my agent intends to publish all the Elven books at once in e-format through Amazon White Glove and the agency.  I believe Audio rights have already been pre-sold to Audible.

Sincerely

Mercedes Lackey
