Synopsis ~

Write-up from the back of the ACE paperback edition ~

Dane Thorson of the space trader Solar Queen is caught in the middle of a desperate battle between the rational science of the spaceways vs. the hypnotic witchcraft of the mental wizards of Khatka!

Write-up from the dust jacket of the Gregg Press edition ~

Voodoo Planet is the third of three novels that compose the Dane Thrson Solar Queen series - a swift-paced series set in the inter-galactic far-future that recounts the high adventures of Dane Thorson, young apprentice Cargo-Master, and his ship-mates on the free trader ship, the Solar Queen. All three of the Dane Thorson Solar Queen books first appeared under the pseudonym, Andrew North.
In Voodoo Planet, Dane Thorson, Medic Tau, and Jellico, captain of the Solar Queen, are invited to Khatka for pleasure-hunting in the planet's legendary jungles. However, their pleasures are short-lived as they encounter the incredibly evil power of Lumbrilo, a witch doctor who seeks to take over the planet and destroy the spacemen in the process. The men are thrown back upon their own physical and spiritual resources and are faced with the do-or-die challenge of mastering exotic magic.

Write-ups from fans ~

While the Solar Queen is in refit on Xecho to take over a mail run, the crew receives a visit from the Chief Ranger of the planet Khatka, who is having trouble with a voodoo priest.  The crew accepts the Ranger's invitation to a "hunting preserve", the group invitation being cover for Dr. Tau, whose knowledge of magic is wanted to fight the wizard who is attempting to take over the plane by using "voodoo" to demoralize the Rangers who guide off-world hunting parties.  While the head Ranger is showing the Queen's crew over a newly opened hunting preserve, their flier crashes.  Dane, Tau, and Captain Jellico must make their way afoot back to civilization; on their trek, they encounter a large party of poachers who are being aided by the wizard they were brought in to fight.  Dane winds up drumming to aid Tau in making his "magic" to defeat the voodoo priest. ~ SL

The third and shortest of Norton's Solar Queen series. Three members of the crew get fooled into a free trip to a luxury game preserve planet. Dane Thorson, Captain Jelico and Craig Tau whose hobby is magic in all forms are tricked into a struggle against a local witch doctor who is threatening the tourist business. Of course, they meet with treachery and sabotage, forcing them into contact with some of the most dangerous creatures in the Norton universe. Nice action sequences and world-building. Tau gets to show off his knowledge of the field of magic. ~ PG
